Does the distant deal still pencil? Typical shipping cost by distance
Freight is what lets you buy farther away for less. These are planning ranges for moving one machine from a Western Canadian pickup, all-in for the carrier and the Trusted Dispatch service, before 5% GST. Half of real moves land inside the range; oversize, overweight and permit-heavy loads sit above it.
| Distance | Typical all-in cost (CAD, before GST) | Example lane |
|---|---|---|
| Under 300 km (local) | C$900 to C$1,350 | Nisku to Edmonton area, Rycroft to Grande Prairie |
| 300 to 600 km | C$1,200 to C$2,350 | Nisku to Calgary, Saskatoon to Edmonton |
| 600 to 1,000 km | C$2,050 to C$3,800 | Chilliwack to Calgary, Saskatoon to Winnipeg |
| 1,000 to 1,600 km | C$3,000 to C$5,800 | Nisku to Winnipeg, Brandon to Calgary |
| 1,600 km and up (cross-country) | C$4,500 to C$10,550 | Chilliwack to Manitoba, Alberta to Ontario |
Method: 25th to 75th percentile of real Trusted Dispatch estimates for Canadian-origin moves over the last 18 months, at the current service rate, rounded to the nearest C$50. These reconcile with the Canadian Heavy Haul Rate Index and the city breakdowns in heavy equipment shipping rates by city. Short hauls run well above the per-kilometre average because minimum charges dominate.
The single biggest cost driver is not distance, it is spec. Width, height and weight decide the trailer, whether the load is oversize, and whether you need permits and pilot cars. See the province rules for Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario and the East.
Get an estimate before you bid
Send us the make and model of the lot you are watching. We pull the specs, match the trailer, and give you one all-in number so you know what the machine really costs delivered, before the hammer falls.
Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to remove equipment after an auction?
It varies by house and yard, often only days to a couple of weeks after the sale closes, with storage fees after that. The removal deadline is on the lot page and in your invoice. Book transport before the deadline, not after; the yard clock is running from the moment you win.
Who loads my machine at the auction yard?
Most large yards have loadout staff and equipment on site during the removal window, but the carrier needs to know the machine, the yard and your release paperwork before the truck rolls. Send the make and model and we confirm the trailer fit first.
Can I ship an auction win to the United States?
Yes. Machines bought at Canadian yards and headed south are cross-border moves and need a customs broker and export paperwork. Get the estimate first so the freight is in your bid math.
Why is the cross-country range so wide?
Because the machine decides it. A compact track loader and a 40-tonne excavator can leave the same yard for the same city and cost very different amounts once trailer class, permits and pilot cars are in. That is why we estimate per lot rather than per kilometre.
