Dusty LaValley, Founder — In Memoriam
Born and raised in a small agricultural community outside Grande Prairie, AB, Dusty was the epitome of a badass entrepreneur. He founded Trusted Dispatch and built it into an international logistics technology company with no technology or business experience. He roughnecked on drilling rigs, logged with a chainsaw, and worked on feedlots — and rode his way to four Canadian Bareback Championships and the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. In his spare time, he hunted wolves and bears with just a bow and arrow!
Dusty passed away on August 2, 2026, after a battle with ALS. When we last spoke, just weeks before he died, he was still thinking bigger than the rest of us: he believed Trusted Dispatch was meant to go global. The moonshot. That belief still steers this company. His co-founder Alex said it best: “Dusty thought big and walked big.”

Alex Gierus, CTO
Alex brings creative and original thinking to every venture, and his innovation has played an essential role in the success and growth of Trusted Dispatch. His approach is both systems-focused and people-focused, and he has an aptitude for understanding how to create reciprocal benefits for everyone involved in creating, using, and improving breakthrough technology.
True to his love of science, Alex loves to tinker with robotics, AI, game development, and mobile apps with his family. He also serves on the board of directors of the largest physical science fair in Canada and oversees their IT infrastructure. Alex holds an MBA in Technology Transfer from the University of Alberta and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. Connect with him on LinkedIn.
Nico Carlson, CEO
Nico has spent his career on the carrier side of logistics. He started as a freight broker at Arrive Logistics in Austin, working directly with carriers every day, then spent the better part of a decade building logistics technology at Deliverr, Shopify Logistics, and Flexport, running the programs that connect carriers into modern fulfillment networks. He holds an MBA from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business and is a venture investor at Golden Section, Trusted Dispatch’s investment partner.
